Top Trends in Kitchen remodeling for 2018

What are the latest trends in kitchen remodeling and design for 2018? Some may surprise you, while others are already on your list of things to do this year. The kitchen is arguably the most important room in your home. It’s not just a place for preparing meals. It’s the room where everyone congregates during the holidays, special family occasions, and even summer barbeques since you are most likely serving the ribs, brisket, burgers, and brats buffet style.

The kitchen is the focal point of the home. It’s the place that brings everyone together, and there are some very interesting trends for kitchen remodeling and design for 2018.

Smart Kitchens: Technology has entered the kitchen in full force, and not just in the form of fancy gadgets and appliances. Today, you can have technology integrated into every function and appliance, including lighting. Motion sense-equipped kitchen faucets and refrigerators that can alert you when your groceries items are running low are among the latest trends. Technology is perhaps the biggest kitchen trend for 2018.

Cabinet Colors: White cabinets will remain a popular cabinet color because it has a clean look. Grey cabinets also work great when paired with natural elements and glamour accents. A surprising trend is dark jewel tones, including black, navy, emerald green, and even plum. It will surprise you how well kitchen cabinets can work in a darker color.

Quartz over Granite: For high-end kitchen countertops, quartz is still the king. The material is extremely hardy, can last virtually forever, is a breeze to maintain and is anti-microbial. Granite requires slightly more maintenance. Quartz is now available in a wide range of colors, including realistic stone patterns. You can even get quartz countertops with elaborate swirls.

Storage Solution Cabinetry: One of the foundations to a functional kitchen is kitchen storage. Homeowners are starting to look for better storage solutions within the cabinetry, such as appliance garages for small appliances, drawer dividers for cutlery and utensils, pull-outs for spices, roll-out trays, wastebasket cabinets for garbage and recyclables, and deeper drawers.

New Appliance Styles: Stainless steel appliances have dominated the market for quite some time. For 2018, you will be seeing refrigerators in red or the vintage-style range in a blue, and so on. Homeowners are now willing to experiment with a wider range of tones around the kitchen. In addition, steam ovens are fast becoming the new “must have” appliance. They cook food much faster, and retain food nutrients and flavor better than conventional ovens.

Single-level Multipurpose Kitchen Islands: Kitchen islands are no longer an afterthought or something small to squeeze into the space. They have become a focal point and hub of the kitchen. One of the emerging changes is the single-level larger size that serves
multiple uses, especially since we are seeing less wall cabinet space in kitchen design. The kitchen island is meant to create an impact, and its design must make a statement. The 2018 kitchen islands will be large and will become jack-of-all-trades, with storage solution cabinets for appliances while providing seating-serving as a casual dining and/or beverage bar.

Pet-friendly Spaces: The kitchen can be a hazardous place for babies and pets if you’re not careful. While we do our best to make kitchens baby-proof, not much thought is given to pets. One great idea is a feeding station. This is usually at the end of a cabinet run or in the corner where you can set up your pet food storage cabinet, feeding station, toys and anything else pet-related. You can even have a built-in doggy bed underneath the island countertop.
