There are literally hundreds of great places to take your kids in the greater Denver area, especially in the summer. We can’t list them all, but following are a few suggestions for parents who want to add a little more fun and adventure to their children’s summer break:
My Gym in Arvada has developed an extraordinary program and facility devised to help children six weeks through age 13. The program helps kids develop physically, cognitively and emotionally. Children have loads of fun as they gain strength, balance, coordination, agility and flexibility while developing social skills, confidence and self-esteem.
The Carousel of Happiness is a magical menagerie featuring 32 colorful, hand-carved animals to ride, while many smaller animals keep them company. Tiny fairies fly overhead and hide in the shadows. Upstairs is an observation window, a small party room, and a do-it-yourself puppet theater. The Carousel is located on the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway in the picturesque town of Nederland about 15 miles west of Boulder.
The Pumpkin Patch of Centennial at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church sells a variety of pumpkins, mini pumpkins and gourds. All pumpkins are grown on a Navajo reservation, and proceeds benefit organizations that help the homeless and the hungry.
The Children’s Museum of Denver at Marisco Campus features a 3-1/2-story climber and programs for sculpting a clay masterpiece, powering a hot air balloon, and more. There is always something new to explore, including expertly-designed exhibits and programs that encourage kid-powered learning while opening doors to Colorado’s curious young minds to express what they know and to discover, create and explore on their own terms.
The Loveland Laser Tag Fun Center is the ultimate laser tag experience. Whether you live in Loveland, Fort Collins. Longmont, Windsor, Boulder, North Denver or beyond, the laser tag facility is Colorado’s largest laser tag arena with 5,700 square feet, and the family entertainment center offers a massive three-level indoor ropes course, bumper cars, 4D motion theater, a laser maze, climbing wall, and an arcade that will keep you busy for an action-packed adventure.
Denver’s Downtown Aquarium features a public aquarium boasting more than a million gallons of underwater exhibits that highlight fascinating ecosystems around the world. The aquarium houses over 500 species of animals, a Stingray Reef touch tank, restaurant, dive lounge, the Nautilus Ballroom, and amusements for the entire family.
The Bluff Lake Nature Center in Denver is a nonprofit agency that owns and manages a unique urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom. The refuge includes an abundance of
animals and native plants that thrive in a variety of habitats. Bluff Lake is Denver’s largest open space that’s managed as a native habitat and Denver’s only nonprofit nature center that relies solely on community support.
And the list of fun things for kids goes on and on, including the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Adventure Golf and Raceway, and Colorado Rockies baseball games at Coors Field.
